Statement Regarding Texas Farm Bureau Endorsement
Friday, October 15, 2004

(BEAUMONT) -.Congressman Nick Lampson, candidate for Texas's Second Congressional district, issued the following statement today:

"The most important endorsement I will receive in this campaign is the endorsement of the voters of Texas's Second Congressional District. While I am disappointed not to receive the Texas Farm Bureau's endorsement this time around, I am pleased with the support I've continued to receive from many hardworking farm families throughout Southeast Texas.

"Since arriving to Congress in 1997, I have been a long time supporter and advocate for Texas's working farm families. I have worked hard to ensure that farming remains a viable means to earn a living by supporting legislation such as the Farm Act, which was designed to support and stabilize producer incomes.

"In fact, in 1999, I led a trade delegation of Southeast Texas Farm Bureau members to Havana, Cuba, to explore opportunities for trade. I also headed a business roundtable focused on agricultural trade with Iran, in light of the Administration's recent easing of restrictions on food and medical sales to Iran. I will continue to fight in Congress for sanctions reform."
